Dear parents and carers,
This newsletter certainly highlights a vibrant tapestry of learning experiences. From acrobatics to the zoo, our staff are truly creating the A to Z of opportunities for our students to learn in diverse environments.
I am delighted with the progress our students have made towards their individual learning goals so far in 2024. Their sustained efforts are reflected in their mid-year progress report, which will be sent home to parents this week. Please take the time these holidays to read the insightful and thoughtful comments in the report and to celebrate your child’s development. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement in nurturing their learning journey here at Holroyd School.
During the winter months it is essential that we work together to maintain a healthy environment within our school community. If your child is feeling unwell, especially with symptoms such as fever, cough, or sore throat, we kindly request that you keep them at home.
By keeping sick children at home, we can minimise the spread of flu and other contagious illnesses within the school. This proactive measure not only protects your child but also helps safeguard the health of their classmates and our dedicated staff members.
It is also of utmost importance that your child’s health care plans remain current. Please notify your child’s teacher of any changes to health plans, medications, or emergency contacts, as soon as possible.
Wishing you a wonderful winter break.
Regards,
Mrs K Thorson
Dear parents and carers,
It was wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of our Mother's Day shoppers at our stall this term. My sincerest thanks to the ladies on our P&C who so thoughtfully selected such a lovely range of gifts.
It's dad's turn soon. Please keep an eye out for news of next term's Father's Day Stall on Facebook and in your child's communication book. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
Mark your diaries. Our next P&C Meeting will be at 9.30am, Wednesday 7 August, in the Community Hub. All parents and carers are welcome and encouraged to attend our monthly meetings. Sign-in at the front office.
Enjoy the school holidays!
Until next time,
Liz Brannon

All students have participated in Dairy Australia's Picasso Cow Program this term.
This interactive, educational program teaches students about dairy products, including the health and nutrition benefits, farming practices and manufacturing processes - all while decorating Mootilda, a life-size fibreglass cow!
It was an all-school effort, with every student spending time investigating and designing artwork and then decorating Mootilda with a combination of sensory experiences and paintings of dairy-based foods.
During the program, which emphasised the importance of eating dairy to produce healthy and strong bones, every class also had the opportunity to sample four different types of cheese, as well as make their own delicious milk shakes.
We are very proud of our students' impressive efforts. Mootilda is on display in the school office. Be sure to say hello!
This term's weekly music program, delivered by the Rhythm Village, has provided our students with new opportunities to learn in an engaging and creative way.
Made possible by a $6000 grant from Resilience to Recovery, this all-accessible sensory program is a powerful learning tool calling on a students' sense of sight, touch and hearing. We are already seeing the many important benefits the program has imparted on our participating students.
Here are some photos of J9 students exploring vibrating instruments - including a gong, Tibetan singing bowl and guitar - during one of their Rhythm Village music lessons this term.
Students had the opportunity to explore and discover at exciting Tiny Scientists workshops this term.
Our young scientists engaged in sensory, hands-on experiments and were enthralled by rocket launches, bubbling chemical reactions, surprising sounds and colours, and musical demonstrations.
Middle School students have eagerly anticipated their weekly horse riding excursions to RDA Tall Timbers in Box Hill this term. The 10-week therapeutic program has certainly brought a lot of joy to our participants.
Many of our students gave wheelchair sports a try recently. Coaches from Wheelchair Sports NSW were on-site to ensure students were having fun while developing new skills.
Students enjoyed close encounters with a range of animals during visits to Sydney Zoo this term.
I like going on the bus. Edison, M17 (via proloquo2Go)

I like Sydney Zoo. Christiano, M17
Fun day trips to We Rock The Spectrum in Wetherill Park and The Shine Shed in Campbelltown this term have delivered a wealth of benefits to our students.
These large, all-inclusive, indoor playgrounds feature fun therapy equipment, such as suspended equipment with swings for balance; a zip line for stress release and relaxation; trampolines for building leg and core strength; an indoor play structure for climbing; and an arts and crafts area for improved hand-eye coordination.
Seven senior classes danced the day away recently at a children's disco held at Club Liverpool.
Students had a wonderful time listening to music, participating in party games, meeting local police and re-fuelling with sandwiches and drinks, hosted by children's charity Variety.
Welcome to Prince, Pranay and Rahman who joined Holroyd School this term; and a warm welcome back to Lewis!
The School Dental Health Van will be at Holroyd School early next term.
Students will receive a full dental check-up at school. If your child needs further treatment, you will be called for a follow-up appointment.
There are no out-of-pocket costs as Medicare will cover these expenses for eligible students. If your child is not Medicare eligible, the school dentist will provide your child with a free dental health screening.
It's not too late to return your child's consent forms, if you have not already done so.
Please contact the school office if you require another copy.
It has certainly been a busy term!
We wish all our staff, students and families a restful and happy Winter holiday.
