Welcome back to all students, staff, teachers, parents and carers. I hope everyone had a relaxing, safe and enjoyable break.
The Parents & Carers Committee extends a warm welcome to all new families experiencing Holroyd School for the first time. It was lovely meeting some of you at our recent Tea and Tissues Morning Tea. We really hope your time with us is rewarding and enjoyable.
It was great to see such a large turnout for the Meet The Staff evening too. I hope you all enjoyed meeting your child's classroom teachers and support staff and the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.
The P&C acknowledges the generosity of Jason Aramideh from Resilience to Recovery, who kindly donated $2000 to support some exciting new events for our much-loved school and community. Watch this space for news on how you can get involved.
Just a reminder that we are still running monthly P&C meetings. All parents and carers are welcome to join us. These meetings are an invaluable opportunity to learn what is happening at school and connect with other parents and school staff.
Our next meeting is at 9.30am, Wednesday 5 April, in the School Hall. Please join us!
If you are interested in attending, or have any questions or suggestions, please email me at liz.brannon@yahoo.com.au

It has been a busy few weeks welcoming our youngest learners to Holroyd School.
In addition to our 13 kindergarten students, we have also welcomed seven new junior and senior students and their families to the Holroyd School community this term.
We wish Taqqi, Angel, Ali, Abdullah, Amariah, Ezra and Eli a happy new beginning here at Holroyd.
Students from five senior classes had an exceptionally 'cool' day at the Ice Rink at Liverpool Catholic Club on Friday, 17 February.
The excursion enabled seated students to glide gently and safely on the ice with the support of volunteers.
Your child's voluntary statement of account was sent home earlier this term.
Fees can be paid online via the Holroyd School website, eftpos at the school office, or in cash.
If you are experiencing financial difficulties, or would like to discuss this account further, please contact the school office on 9637 1219.
J1 has had a wonderful start to the year. We are enjoying being together and we are working hard at learning and developing skills every day.
Our favourite weekly activities are music, art and cooking. We begin the week with a visit from Rhythm Village music teacher, Adam. We are currently learning about the music of West Africa and we've discovered that some of us have quite the talent for playing the drums!
Let's Experiment is the title of this semester's Science Unit of Work. J1 students engage all of their senses to experience and observe a variety of experiments. When we recently combined milk, dishwashing detergent and food colouring in a tub, we all looked on in amazement as swirls of colour danced across the surface of the milk.
We also enjoy the sensory experience of our cooking program. This term our recipes will either be sensory, edible or, in some cases, both. Earlier this term we made marshmallow playdough, which felt soft and squishy and smelt wonderful!
It's fun to leave the classroom on Tuesday mornings and visit the school library. Here we enjoy a quiet space where we can listen to, and engage with, a sensory story.
Parents of J1, we are enjoying every day with your children and feel privileged to play a part in their journey at Holroyd School.
This term M17 has been concentrating on the Events That Made Australia unit by engaging in various art and craft activities. This has so far included understanding celebrations such as Australia Day, as well as indigenous customs and traditions.
Through artwork, cooking and sensory play M17 has celebrated Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day and Pancake Tuesday, and will soon do the same for St Patrick's Day. The class also marked the very important start of the NRL season this week with some commemorative artwork.
As well as literacy and numeracy, the students participate in weekly sporting activities and will soon begin The Let's Experiment topic in science, focusing on solids, gases and liquids.
Teacher Sean has encouraged the students (and particularly Jacob's) interest in the kitchen with practical instruction on food preparation and cleaning. The class also participates in the Crunch n Sip program, exposing the students to different culinary textures and tastes.
Sensory play is a favourite for Ethan and Sohaib; while Omar and Andrew love listening to music on the class Ipad.
In addition to most students participating in the MOVE program daily, the seven class mates in S26 enjoy weekly learning activities such as music, sensory cooking and art, senior sport, switch programs, gardening and school assemblies.
Regular hydrotherapy sessions are a class-favourite, with students experiencing the joy and freedom of movement in the school's relaxing, heated pool.
This busy timetable also includes students spending time with their friends in S30. Every Thursday afternoon the two classes come together to participate in shared reading time.
It has been a great start to the year, with all students settling in well after the long summer break. We are looking forward to a great year.
